Exploring

Exploring is a career learning program for young men and women between the ages of 14 and 20. Exploring units, called posts, usually focus on a single career field, such as police, fire/rescue, health, law, aviation, or engineering.

Exploring is a worksite-based program that is part of Learning for Life’s career education program. Youth who are 13 years old and within six months of their 14th birthday can also register as Explorers, and any youth may remain an Explorer until the day they turn 21.

Exploring is divided into three programs: Business Exploring, Law Enforcement Exploring, and Fire and Emergency Services Exploring. The purpose of Exploring is to provide experiences that help young people mature and prepare to become responsible, caring adults.

Exploring is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth and the organizations in their communities. Local community organizations initiate an Explorer post by matching their people and program resources to the interests of young people in the community.
